LOCAL AUTHOR TONYA L. MATTHEWS RELEASES FIRST NOVEL
Book Signing at Merle Norman November 2nd – 3rd

Tonya L. Matthews, author of TREASURE ATOP THE MOUNTAIN, will be at Merle Norman located at 130 Walton Avenue on Saturday, November 2nd from 3-5 p.m. and Sunday, November 3rd from 12-2 p.m. for her first official book signing event.

Tonya grew up on a family farm in Riverside, Kentucky where her father recognized early on that hoeing tobacco and running hogs weren’t in her skill set. He opted to send her to Western Kentucky University, which resulted in a career with the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce for two decades. In 2018, Tonya chose family over career as their teen daughters became priority. Tonya has found writing to be a healthy escape and effective therapy during tough seasons throughout her life.

“I wrote TREASURE ATOP THE MOUNTAIN before Todd and I adopted the girls from foster care. We’d been through years of disappointments trying to start our family. I needed an escape and began to read and enjoyed inspiring fiction books. After reading several that missed the mark, I decided one day that I’d just write what I wanted to read. I didn’t know what I was doing, but the words came and the story developed. There were times that pieces of the book came together and surprised me even as I wrote it. I’d stand up, do a little happy dance all by myself, and sit back down to type more,” Tonya shares about the writing process.

“A lot of people know Tonya from her work at the Chamber, but like me, I didn’t know she had done something like this. When I listen to Tonya talk about her book, it is obvious she is filled with a passion to encourage others. The reviews are amazing!” said Pam Jones, owner of Merle Norman.
