In Treasure atop the Mountain by Tonya L. Matthews, Gracie grew up with her grandfather and worked in his ice cream store called Swirly's in the small town of Ridgewood, Kentucky. When Gracie was eleven years old, her life came crashing down when she unexpectedly lost her family in an accident. The same accident leaves Gracie with a disability and she struggles to make her way in life, thinking no one really cares for her. That is until Kage comes to town. But can Gracie really live the lifestyle Kage lives, and can she leave her beloved town of Ridgewood? Read this sweet book to find the answers.
Gracie's story is one of acceptance and healing that takes years and trust in God. Life wasn't easy for Gracie and my heart went out to her and I grieved with her many times during this book. I was glad when Kage started noticing her, though their times together were not always the best for Gracie. This is my first book by Tonya L. Matthews, and I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style and getting to know her characters and their devotion to their town. I think the hidden treasure rumor added a lot of fun and enjoyment to the story. There are some twists and turns that threw me off track and kept me reading to see what was going to happen next. Matthews does an excellent job of keeping her readers entertained enough to want to finish the book. With so much going on in the story, I wondered about how it would end, but the author weaves it all together beautifully. I encourage you to check out Treasure atop the Mountain by Tonya L. Matthews.
